introduction
HOUGANG WIND SYMPHONYThe band was formed in 2001 with a membership of only 40 Sec One students. It has since expanded to a membership of 100. For the 9th year running, the HS Wind Symphony has been actively involved in many school events as well as Music Exchange programmes with other school bands. This year, the band participated in the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Central Judging of Concert Bands Competition and clinched a Gold award. It is the band's third participation in the SYF. It also had music exchange with schools like Regent Secondary School, Shuqun Secondary School and Ang Mo Kio Secondary School which provided opportunities for the band members to learn and play with band members from other schools. Last year, the band went for a Music Exchange programme at Burapha University of Bangkok, Thailand and has also participated in Singapore International Band Festival obtaining a Silver award. The band has also performed in events like Annual School "Art Festia" and "Addiction" concerts. The band also plays the National Anthem every Monday for the school morning assembly. The band was also privileged to perform at 2007’s National Day Observance Ceremony at Hougang Secondary School organised by the Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC where the Guest of Honour was Mister Teo Ser Luck, Permanent Secretary of MCYS, Member of Parliament of Pasir-Ris Punggol GRC. The band is currently under the baton of our Band Director, Mr Lim Yean Hwee, who has managed to infuse the appreciation of music in all of us under his guidance. THE HS WIND SYMPHONY!

Band Test coming up!

Hi all! As you guys already know, there is no practice till further notice due to the H1N1 crisis.We feel that this period is the best time for everyone to train and get back to their basics so we're having a mini basic test when band resumes. Please practice hard!
What will be tested: - 7 Basic Major Scales - Ab,Bb,C,D,Eb,F,G. - 7 Basic Major Arpeggios - Ab,Bb,C,D,Eb,F,G. - Chromatic Scales starting on any note. - Basic Rhythm Test. - Score Reading. Also, there is Arts Fiesta rehearsals in the first week when school reopens!
Rehearsal days are on the TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY of the first week of school. See you all then! Meanwhile, PRACTICE HARD! REST WELL! DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Wednesday, June 24, 2009
